Latest Obsession: North and South
So it's no secret that I love Mr. Darcy from
Pride and Prejudice. However, Rebecca introduced me to my new crush: Mr. Thornton from
North and South (1854)
, by Elizabeth Gaskell. It is basically
Pride and Prejudice set in England's Industrial Revolution.
Rebecca approached me a month ago and urged me to watch the BBC production of North and South, which she had just finished watching. Before I watched the miniseries, I wanted to read the book. It has taken me several weeks to finish, not because it's particularly long, but because I've been so busy that I haven't had much time to read. As soon as I neared the end of the book, I couldn't put it down and I just plowed through the last 100 pages or so. It was that good.
I put the book down and rushed over to my computer and watched the movie. It is a four-episode series, broken down into seven eight-minute segments on Youtube. I watched the first three episodes until 2am, and then decided to save the last episode for the next morning.
It was amazing! Beautifully done! It's a timeless love story and I watched the last segment three times in a row! For anyone who has yet to read the book or watch the series, Mr. Thronton is similar to Mr. Darcy, only more rugged and brooding. Yeah. I said it.
So now, I can't decide: Thornton or Darcy?...But lucky me, I don't need to choose!
