Quarantine Life: Day 4, Staying Connected

Quarantine Life: Day 4, Staying Connected

As our first week of being at home draws to a close, we reflect on how important it is to maintain relationships in these strange times. It’s a reminder that being apart doesn’t necessarily mean social isolation.

To maintain work relationships, I have periodic chat breaks with my coworkers where we all debate on IM about a topic, such as chocolate vs. vanilla or painting vs. drawing. It doesn’t matter what the topic is, as long as we have a chance to engage. Grant takes the time to call each of his customers to make sure they’re ok and to ask how he can help their businesses weather the storm. He offers his coworkers words of encouragement or acts as a sounding board for their concerns. A friend of mine who is also working from home told me about her team’s virtual coffee breaks. Ten people jump into a video conference for 15 minutes to talk about their day and to introduce coworkers to their kids or dogs.

In our personal relationships, we’ve kept in touch through countless texts, phone calls, emails, and this blog with our family and friends around the world (shout outs to the Philippines, San Francisco, San Diego, Washington, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Ireland). We ask after each other’s wellbeing, we share our anxieties and fears, we talk about what made us laugh that day. We discuss TV show recommendations (we’ve officially added The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to our list) and share online workout routines (we hear www.fitnessblender.com is promising).

We’ll continue to share ideas on this blog for staying connected. It’s what makes us human.

This daily blog post series is our way of sharing our experience with you, our readers. We’ll talk about our daily routines, adjustments to working from home, recipes based on limited ingredients and any other topic that comes to mind. It’s our way of connecting with the “outside” world, while also giving us the opportunity to look within and reflect on what we’re experiencing and how we’re feeling. Thanks for your interest in sharing this journey with us. Stay tuned and be well.
