DIY E-Reader Cover
I had my Nook for a couple of weeks, and I still hadn't found a cover I liked. Most of the ones they sell at Barnes and Noble are pretty plain and overpriced.
Well instead of spending $40 or more on a cover I didn't really like, I decided to make my own. I stopped by my local Jo-Ann Fabrics and picked up some material.
For my personalized e-reader cover, I needed:
- Two different colors of fabric-- 1/2 yard each [although I bought one yard of each just in case]
- One yard of elastic
- One size 11 precision blade
- One sheet of 6mm-thick foam
- An iron-on applique [I chose a peacock to complement my turquoise fabric]
I already had some felt, cardboard, Velcro, and my hot glue gun at home, so I only spent about $20. I didn't have a pattern to follow, which meant I ended up winging it. After a couple hours of improvising, I'm very happy with my final product! My customized cover with padded interior has elastic to hold my Nook securely in place, plus a bonus pocket for papers and a little pocket in the spine for my pencil. And don't worry, when I close my cover, the pencil rests gently between the two pieces of foam so it won't scratch the screen.
For anyone with an e-reader or anyone thinking of buying one, consider checking out DIY options or Etsy before settling for a cover you don't absolutely love!
