Giving words new meaning

I overheard one of my aunts talking to one of her nieces. She's still trying to learn English.

Aunt: So, you have boyfriend?
Cousin: Um... Yeah.
[awkward pause]
Aunt: So, you hooked a man?
[second awkward pause]
Cousin: Um...
Aunt: Aha! That's my girl! You're a good hooker!


I think something was a little lost in translation.
