Holding hands, romantic music, and a love that reached across galaxies. I'm in love with a movie about robot love. There. I've said it. I'll admit that when I first saw a trailer for Wall-E I wasn't too excited about it. I mean, a futuristic movie about robots didn't sound like my kind of movie. But then I saw that it got an A rating in the local newspaper and those two movie critic guys on channel four liked it so much that they saw it twice. So, when my friends suggested we see it, I went with an open mind.
All I can say is that it's the sweetest romantic new movie I've seen this whole year. And this is an animated movie about robots. Robots!! It's hard not to fall in love with the characters. Most of the audience when I watched it were adults. There were four or five kids in total, tops. Everyone else was on a date (well except my friends and me). I never thought it would be a date movie, but it's probably the best date movie out.
One of my favorite things about the movie is its brutal honesty. Thank you, Disney. Every Disney movie has an important "message" to teach a generation. Snow White taught us not to accept food from strangers, whether it's a poison apple from a hag or "candy" from a sketchy guy who drives an unmarked, windowless white van. Bambi says don't go out in the woods and shoot innocent animals. Beauty and the Beast taught us that if you're dating a beast, sometimes it's better for him to stay a manly beast rather than turn into a girly twin-version of you. Basically, the "message" in Wall-E is that human beings are destroying the planet (which we are), and we will all soon become obese, ignorant, and illiterate buffoons who rely on machines to think for us (TiVo, anyone?). Needless to say, I felt a little ashamed for being a human being after watching that movie. I mean, the only characters with brains and heart were the robots.
But luckily that didn't detract from the overall happy feeling I got from the movie. If you haven't seen it already, I think it's worth watching.
